Sekondi: Methodist Bishop arrested, fined for driving without license
A Methodist Bishop in Sekondi-Takoradi has found himself on the wrong side of the law after committing a road traffic offense, Kapital Online Team gathered.
According to a report by colleague clergy, the Minister of God [name withheld] was arrested by police with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) on his way home from church.
“One of my Methodist bishops in Sekondi was arrested without a license. He called me and ‘I told him for this one, you’re to pay a fine!’. He said he was going home for his driver’s license, and I said fine; that may mitigate the sentence by the court. The case was already booked for court, and when he went to court, he was asked to pay the exchange fine”, Ashanti Regional Police Chaplain, Sup. Rev. Jonas Aboagye revealed.
The Police Chaplain at a sermon at Wesley Methodist Cathedral in Adum in Kumasi admonished Christians to be law-abiding so that they don’t find themselves in a legal tussle.
“I have received so many calls to intervene from people who know me. Pastors are calling, church members are calling, and town folks are calling.
“So from now on, if anyone is arrested for traffic infractions, ‘don’t call me’. I’ve even asked my Bishop not to call me so call tell church members. If you text me, I’ll delete it”, Supt. Very Rev. Jonas Samuel Aboagye told the congregation on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
“The Senior Police Officer added: “So go to Court and pay the fine. And the State will make money from”, the Methodist clergy, stressed without mincing words.
