I wanted to commit suicide, I felt God has disappointed me – Ohemaa Mercy recounts her past struggles

The singer in an interview with Cookie Tee ahead of her ‘Bethel Experience’ narrated how as a teacher some years back, she could not pay debts and would have people walk into her room and take her television sets.

The ‘Edin Jesus’ crooner noted that life was unbearable for her and felt embarrassed such that on several occasions, she locked herself in room for three days without stepping out.

Ohemaa Mercy noted that as committed as she was to church activities and the sacrifices she made for God’s work, she could not comprehend why God would allow her to go through such difficult moments.

According to her, at a point, she became a “hospital prisoner” after she gave birth to her first child and her church could not offer assistance to pay her hospital bills.

Distressed as she was and “disappointed” by God, Ohemaa Mercy said she wanted to end it all and “took a knife to kill herself.”

“I gave up, I stopped singing in church and didn’t want to hear anything about music because I was going through a lot and I felt at a point God has disappointed me because of my commitment and sacrifices.

“Sometimes, I would go to my mum for help and she would look at me and say I’m really disappointed and I have to walk miles to the house. I remember I was so pregnant with my first born and I have to go to my mum for food for one week. I could not face the world.

“I have to even take knife to kill myself because I felt at this point, there won’t be any good,” she said on Today’s Woman, September 6.

She mentioned her life is a testimony of God’s unwavering love towards her.

Speaking about her ‘Bethel Experience’, Ohemaa Mercy said neither did she know that all her past struggles was in preparation of her Tehillah, The Bethel Experience concert ordained by God to safe souls.

“God will never make you rest, he will melt you, he will break you to the point where you will run to him and he will open up to you who he had made you.

“But do you know why because the devil has seen that, today there is going to be Tehillah and a lot of souls are going to be saved, people are going to be out of captivity and that is why the devil was wresting against me.

“Immediately you see that things are not going on well, stick to prayer and stop talking,” she encouraged Christians.
