Perez Musik Reflects on Finding God After Heartbreak
The journey to salvation is unique for everyone, shaped by individual experiences that often serve as turning points. For gospel artist Perez Musik, his transformation from a life of worldly indulgence was prompted by a deeply personal event—heartbreak. This painful episode became the catalyst for his spiritual awakening.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, the 'Blema Tesaa' singer shared how his life took a different path after being immersed in various vices, including smoking. He revealed that it was a heartbreak that pushed him to seek solace in God and ultimately changed his life for the better.
“The truth is, it started with a heartbreak,” Perez confessed, with a hint of vulnerability in his voice. “Andy, don’t laugh at me. At the time, it was very painful. I’ve never shared this story before, but I’ll tell it now—without naming names. Someone in the industry was pursuing my girlfriend at the time.”
Perez went on to explain that the situation unfolded right in front of him. He had brought his girlfriend to visit him at work, and while he wasn’t paying attention, a friend of his—someone he considered a close companion—took her number. "The next thing I knew, they were talking. And this was a guy I thought was my ‘buddy buddy.’ That’s why I don’t really make friends anymore,” he reflected.
The final blow came when Perez was hanging out with the same friend. His friend handed him the phone to make a call, and as Perez took it, his girlfriend’s display photo appeared on the screen. “I just looked at it and said ‘yo.’ I gave the phone back and went home. I didn’t say anything to him. I just left.”
Despite the betrayal and emotional pain, Perez Musik credits this heartbreak for setting him on a new path. Since embracing his faith and turning his life over to God, he has found a sense of peace and joy that eluded him before.
His spiritual transformation has also translated into success in his musical career. Perez Musik has won awards such as Songwriter of the Year and Best Male Vocal Performance at the 24th Ghana Music Awards. With hits like "Majie Oyi," "Kaafo," "Walatse," and "Hewale Lala," he continues to make his mark in the gospel music scene.
